“Everyday of your life is a another lesson. If you learn the lesson well and apply it; whether positive or negative, you determine what happens in your tomorrow.”

"You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. You can teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."
My classroom is an amazing place filled with hard working students and staff.
Everyday they come to school and are eager to get to work. They all have their own quirks and teach me something new everyday. Every student works significantly below their grade level but work hard every day to learn new skills. They are full of curiosity, energy and incredible potential. We focus on the positive and celebrate every success that our students achieve.
Every day we do our best to make sure that our students have the necessary tools they need to succeed, but it's not easy when you are a teacher. Budget cuts are costing us to get creative with the lack of resources. With the help of Donors Choose, I am able to provide unique and engaging materials to help my students who experience autism and other communication disorders discover new and exciting experiences and adventure that they otherwise would not be afforded.
My Project
I am requesting snacks and food for the classroom that will be used to feed the students snacks. Snack time is a crucial time for my kids to request items and socialize. Its also a good time for the kids to try new things. Being in middle school I have to deal with lots of growth spurts especially with the boys. My boys will go through periods of needing to inhale everything in sight and at times I can not keep up with the demand. You will be helping me feed my kids.
I have requested shelves, cans of food and a cash register that will build the life skills program, which will include a mock grocery store and a student run restaurant. They will learn how to navigate a kitchen and also on a bi-weekly basis take orders and make food for staff. This will give students hand on experience. The cash register will give them hands on experience using their math. The shelves will give the classroom the "grocery store" stocked with cans and other non perishable items.
The donations will help fund the life skills program and ensure its success.
It will give them opportunities to utilizes skills they learn on a weekly basis while tying in reading and math skills. The students will learn how to generalize skills and be able to cultivate the skills to be better versions of themselves and ensuring they become independent success adults.
The snacks will help ensure that the students have access to healthy choices. Thank you very much for donating!
