This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.
My Project
Going to Washington, D.C., is a huge trip for my students. Most of our parents can not afford to pay for their students to attend. This project allows my students to not worry about snack foods and beverages while we are on the trip. These snacks will help students get some sustenance while we are maneuvering to and from each historical site and at the hotel. Visiting our nation’s capital is important and being able to provide some type of relief to our parents financially helps make this trip a reality for our students in Weaver, Alabama. Students are use to getting a snack and this project helps us to provide that snack.
