My students need Quaker chewy granola bars, Slim Jim Meat Sticks and a Sweet and Salty Snacks Variety Box. These will be snacks for students who don't have any.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a large Title I school where eighty percent of the students live below the poverty line. My students are racially, academically, and economically diverse. Many of them face situations that no child should ever face, like being temporarily homeless. Yet, they are also hardworking, enthusiastic young people full of potential and possibilities. They have lots of life and energy.
They love to learn, especially in new and exciting ways, and they recognize that they are part of a larger, generous community.
Please consider helping me to make this their best year ever!
My Project
Many of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In past years I allowed my students to eat a quick snack in the morning before we went to lunch. However, this year my fourth graders will be eating lunch at 10:30 in the morning. This makes me extremely nervous as a teacher for two reasons. First, it means that they will have a long afternoon without food and second, for some, it may be their last real meal of the day. Therefore I would like to keep Slim Jim's, granola bars, and a variety of snacks on hand for those whose parents cannot afford to send them with snacks. This will allow them to eat a snack in the late afternoon or take one home if necessary.
Students should not have to worry about being hungry at school or at home!
Their job is to learn. With your help, I can make sure that they have full bellies while at school and can concentrate on getting the best education they can. Thanks!
