My students need a vending fridge, snack rack, and a crock pot buffet to create their own successful concession stand businesses.

As a G/T facilitator, my aim is to teach my students how to think critically, be creative, and work together. For many of my students, this comes naturally. However, some students need more practice with these skills. This project aims to give those students extra practice and incorporate Economics.
I teach G/T, or gifted and talented students, in grades 1 - 4 in my building.
We are located in a community in the South. Our test scores have been on the lower end for the past few years but we are beginning to see gains. I aim to help increase those score gains and improve the attitude of my students towards Economics at the same time. My students like more hands-on learning, which is very important in teaching Economics. The concepts are easier to grasp. Plus, using economics to teach my students enables me to teach my students how to be creative, cooperative, and a critical thinker.
During the student trivia league, not only do my students compete by answering Economics-related trivia questions but they also create their own businesses. This project will allow my students the ability to join the snack and hot food market to make their project by selling sodas, snacks, and hot food to patrons who participate or watch the trivia league competitions. My students will use the vending fridge to keep the sodas cold for the concession stand. The snack rack will be used to store snacks like chips, peanuts, candy, etc. that students can sell during the Economics Student Trivia League. The crock pot buffet will be used to store the hot food like hot dogs, chili, and cheese for student concession stands. My students will learn various math skills, such as simple math and multiplication, as well as entrepreneurial skills of computing prices, estimating profit, and completing market surveys. My students won't even realize they are learning!
Without your help, my students will not get this real-world, hands-on learning that they so desperately need to understand the fundamental concepts of Economics.
