Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 3rd-5th graders participate in a program called "Girls on the Run" in which we teach life skills through fun and engaging lessons that celebrate health and wellness. The curriculum includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.

Our students encourage one another, are kind to one another, and ultimately empower one another to be the best they can be!

They love coming to practice and exploring different strategies to help themselves build confidence.

Throughout the Girls on the Run season, students prepare to run a 5k race with a running buddy which gives them a sense of achievement in accomplishing their goals and helps set the pathway for students to live a healthy lifestyle.

Our students have been through so much during this pandemic and our focus is on building a safe and supportive community. It will be important to continue to give our students opportunities to laugh, love learning, and enjoy being a kid while being both mentally and physically healthy!

My Project

Girls on the Run is a program that inspires girls to be confident and take charge of their lives. Through this afterschool program, we help girls get a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them.

We meet twice a week and over the course of the program, girls develop and improve competence, confidence, strengthen their character, create positive connections and relationships, and respond to others and oneself with care and compassion.

Our girls need healthy snacks to eat after school so their tummies are full, which will help give them a boost of energy before each lesson. The goldfish, fruit snacks, and Nutri-Grain bars will give them a variety of healthy options each practice so that they can make healthy choices. The cases of water will help keep them stay hydrated as they workout. Overall, they will develop positive self-esteem along with an encouraging "I Can" mindset.

By supporting this project, you will help to empower young girls to develop confidence and foster positive and healthy relationships, which will overall strengthen the character of our youth.
