Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a title one school. Our campus is 97% free and reduced lunch. Despite challenges, my students are motivated to learn and excited for the future to come.
Teaching a bilingual classroom, the majority of my students come from Spanish speaking families.
Although they are confident, capable students, they struggle in the acquisition of a new language. Our goal is to have students that are 100% bilingual and biliterate.
They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world
My Project
Due to the circumstances of COVID and the adjustments we have made in the classroom, we are no longer able to share snacks among students. Many of my Kinder students do not have a daily snack provided. I would like to ensure every student has a snack during our brain break time. An alternative to traditional snacks includes a healthy trail mix that each student can enjoy during our breaks.
Since our lunch is at 10:30 a.m., many of my students need a snack later in the day as they are typically hungry by the afternoon.
We have designated time in our daily schedule to have a break and a snack. I would love the opportunity to have additional snacks readily available in my classroom for those who are unable to bring one.
