Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our school’s population of immigrant students in growing. Many of their parents are undocumented. As a result, families are unable to apply for free and reduced lunch benefits. Therefore, some of my students are opting to stay in the classroom during lunch instead of socializing and enjoying a meal with their peers. After conversations with my students, I learned that they sometimes can’t get lunch from school and are not bringing lunch from home due to financial reasons. As their teacher, this makes my heart ache.

Having access to snacks and lunch items will help supplement my student’s nutritional needs as well as help them to focus on their academics in class.
