Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a STEM-based charter school with 74% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. Recently, we also became a Blue Zone School which focuses on movement and making healthy choices. The families we serve really want what is best for their kids and trust me, as their teacher, to help make those decisions.
The students in my classroom are struggling readers and may not have the resources at home that I can help provide in the classroom.
I encourage the students to express themselves in their work and apply it to real-life situations. I use cooperative learning strategies and encourage freedom of movement.
My Project
During the day, my students can get hungry and don't always have food available from home. I know that when students are hungry they are too distracted to learn. I want to make sure that all my students are focused.
Having healthy snacks will help my students learn because they won't be hungry.
Sometimes what they get for lunch might not be enough to last them all day or they didn't get a great breakfast. I want to make sure my students stay focused on learning and not on grumbling bellies.
