My students need to have a nourished body in order to learn. These snacks will provide my students much needed nutrition like peanut butter for protein and whole wheat crackers to feel full.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic fun loving middle schoolers in a special education English class.Unfortunately, my kids come from impoverished families that work and often can't give them the food they need at home. It becomes hard for them to concentrate when they are hungry.
Even though our school offers breakfast and lunch, it is very common to hear that the students refused to eat the food because of the stigma attached to it.
Many have said to me that only poor students get that food. They would rather starve themselves than risk being made fun of.
Nonetheless, day in and day out, my 7th & 8th grade kids challenge themselves to academically perform at the same grade level as their non-special education peers. They take the same tests and do the same work, but they require a little more support to help them achieve grade level mastery. They struggle and I struggle along with them but together we find a way to create success.
My Project
Everyday my kids enter my class they are warmly greeted. As they make their way to their seat they pick up a snack or two I have layed out for them on a table. I give them 5 minutes to both eat and complete a quick writing assignment. This project will allow me to continue to provide these much needed snacks to my kids for next year.
The snacks I've chosen provide my students with much needed nutrition like organic fruit gummies and gold fish crackers.
