Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 12 students in my classroom with a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns this school year. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which 84.4% of the students receive free or reduced-price meals. Our school is high poverty and many students cannot afford a whole lot.
Families send their precious children to our class every day for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.
Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life and eager to learn.
Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in and hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love for learning.
No matter who enters through my classroom doors, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of snacks including popcorn, fruit snacks, crackers, cookies, pretzels and baked chips. A donation of snacks to my Pre-K students will improve our classroom in several ways. I am due to go on maternity leave in March. Our current snack supply will probably only last from now until I go on maternity leave.
I want to make sure that I leave my students with enough snacks to last through the end of the school year when I return from maternity leave.
Children need to be able to refuel throughout the day to maintain energy and focus on academics; that's where snacking comes in. Snacks are especially crucial for children because they are still growing. Healthy snacking at school can lead to better nutrition during foundational years. Children may need to fill certain nutrient gaps left by meals. They don't always like what the cafeteria serves. Snacks will provide increased energy and ability to focus.
Unfortunately, snacks are not provided by our district and very few parents send snacks for their children as they are of low socioeconomic status. Pre-K students should be having fun learning, and not be worrying about their bellies rumbling.
My students attend Pre-K full day. It is a very long day for these young 4-5-year-olds, and they get really hungry. Please help support my students to make sure they have a snack every day and help me have peace of mind that they won't go hungry while I am gone.
