If you walk into my classroom, you will notice 20 eager to learn first graders. My class has students who are reading quite well, who I use as mentors, to students who need more one on one attention. It will be exciting to see how each student grows!
You may notice play money being handed out as my students are learning to earn as well as manage their own money.
They all have jobs and get a weekly allowance. They all want the job as "banker." They earn money, for example, for completing
assignments or filling our "blue folders" in the mornings.
My class loves to sing and dance our way through learning. We add motions to most things we are learning every day. If I can't find a song, sometimes I will make one up on the spot.
Responsibility is another word used often in our class. As their teacher, I want them to know it is their responsibility to get their work completed, their responsibility to hang up their book bags; and it is their responsibility to do their jobs.
I believe responsibility is a trait you can never learn too early.
My Project
The student binder will help students transition from school to home each day. It serves to help students stay organized and is filled with passages in sheet protectors to achieve success with reading fluency. Since these are in sheet protectors, I will not have to redo the materials inside the binder every year.
Math requires many hands on materials.
The Pattern blocks will help students with Geometric Shape Pictures.
I am excited that they can use these to build pictures with the shapes then use an iPad to take a picture and record what shapes they used in there picture. Kids need more materials to be creative! The flash cards will help students with math fact fluency which will help them be more successful in the upper grades.
Every teacher needs card stock every year to create new activities to make learning fun and exciting and helps it to last for many years. I have a new Math activity I bought which will take many sheets of card stock to complete. I also need the laminator and laminating sheets which will help protect the activity as students handle it over many years.
Last, I need headphones for the new iPads I just received from a Donor at DonorsChoose this year. Students use the iPads in different stations while I am teaching and this requires headphones to hear the activity.
Students need different ways to showcase the learning that takes place in the classroom. The materials purchased through Donors Choose will allow them the ability to showcase their learning in a way that is authentic.
