My special learners are hospitalized in a restrictive inpatient facility for a myriad of psychological traumas. Students are here with conditions like schizophrenia, OPD, Suicidal Ideation, and Depression. Since my scholars are inpatient, they are not able to leave the hospital rooms and go outside. This limited access to simply open a window and breathe in outside air can contribute to feelings of loneliness and isolation. Despite these conditions, my students aspire to live a quality life and share the same hopes and dreams as other children. My job is to give them the high quality education necessary to help propel them toward their dreams.
All children deserve to feel the sunshine.
My scholars can activate the warmth of the sun with applying robotics application, experiments with microscopes, and even unlock it within themselves. I can give my scholars the tools necessary for success by having a classroom supplied with the materials necessary to create hands-on teaching and learning. My children are learners. They face many obstacles but they still have a love of learning. Having a science center in our classroom will help my students know they can still smile through science even without the sunshine.
My Project
An investment in a science center in our classroom will engage my students in activities that expand their minds beyond the walls of their hospital rooms. Not only are my scholars faced with day-to-day experiences of most adolescents, they are additionally burdened with incapacitating psychological traumas. At times, the education necessary to propel them forward is grossly and negatively impacted due to the restrictions of their mental abilities. I am asking for two microscopes, a prepared slide set and a robot for our science center.
A classroom science center can bring in a little smile can make a world of difference in our day.
A focus of the relational workings of mind body is key in understanding ourselves and others. The use of microscopes will allow students to be mindful and present in looking at how organisms are formed and interact with one another. The use of robotics will demonstrate how different parts contribute to the whole of the object. Hands-on, interactive learning are most beneficial in our setting because being present means we are engaged.
