My students come from a rural area where all of the students are free/reduced lunch. My students want learn, but for various reasons they are behind their cohorts. They struggle with academics, controlling their temper, and having basic materials. The students are very transient because of behavior. They are with us for 5 days to 9 weeks or longer.
The students need science literacy novels to inspire them in their academic quest.
Currently there is not a school library or a classroom library for science at the school. We are getting some books but we need more current books to incorporate into the science curriculum. We need books of high interest and on the students reading level.
My Project
As there is currently not a library for my students to check out books at school, i am striving to build a class library with books that can be incorporated into science lessons. All the novel can reference a variety of science topics that can be included in the new science curriculum. By having these novels, I can include more science literacy into the curriculum.
Student need to read so that they can become productive citizens who can make decisions based off of scientific facts.
Jurassic Park can be used in any life science class from middle school to high school using it to teach - science ethnics, DNA coding, mitosis/meiosis, paleontology, food web to name just a few.
