Welcome to the land of learners. I share it with my sweet second graders. They come with a variety of backgrounds all of which help build our classroom community. My children love to share ideas and lend each other a helping hand. Their curiosity is endless and is ready to be sparked.
Worksheets don't ignite learners, but amazing books do.
A common thread is that they are all thirsty for good books. My room is full of students looking through my book collection and checking out the ones they love. Reading books of their choosing is important to them and I am so glad to be there to support them.
My Project
I am always on the look out for amazing books to invite my readers into new worlds. My students love to read and I always want to have a new book to put in their hands. I want their "to be read" pile to be ever growing so that they never enter a reading slump.
A good book for my children is one that engages them with humor, piques their curiosities, and allows them to be successful.
My students will use these books in a variety of ways. We will use them in our small guided reading groups. This will allow to to become comfortable and fluent with the text. They will also check them out from me and bring them home to read with their families. My students will use these books to increase their high frequency word knowledge. It will also help them become fluent readers. The texts I have selected are very engaging, lending themselves to being read and re-read with enthusiasm.
