My students need hands-on materials to support them in understanding and comparing animals' needs.

I teach in a high-poverty area, where 100% of the students in our school qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Many of our students have limited resources in their home environment, and therefore that may impact their academic progress in their school environment. However, no matter a students' background or academic abilities, ALL students can learn. It is the teacher's responsibility to provide the best learning practices that cater to each student's special needs and interests. Teaching with hands-on science experiments provides the most beneficial and inspirational ways impact, especially to students who might not otherwise be able to engage in those experiences outside of the school setting. Students will ultimately be able to work "Smarter, Together!" Every time science is on our daily schedule, ALL of my first grade students giggle with excitement and curiosity. It makes me want to teacher science ALL day long!
During our fourth quarter of first grade, a major focus of my students will be learning about animals and their offspring and the physical structures of different animals. By the end of the unit, they will be able to answer the scientific questions, "What do all living things need to survive" and "How do animals look like their parents?" These science kits will enable students to gain and expand their understanding of different animals and be able to compare them with each other, in a whole-group learning environment, independently, and also with partners.
The donation of this wonderful science kit will expand student's knowledge in so many ways.
It includes hands-on models of a variety of animals to provide "real-world" knowledge and experiments in which students can expand their horizons and think on a higher level of learning.
