I am a music teacher who is extremely grateful to be part of a school community that is made up of a diverse population and a community that is so incredibly supportive of the arts.
Every day, my goal is to instill in my students a love and respect for music making and its process.
My students are so excited to come to music class! They know that my room is a safe space for them to express themselves, either through song, instrument, or movement. I love that my students are so full of creativity, they have an ability to think outside of the box, and they are able to think critically and problem solve. Very often they inspire me!
My Project
SMART boards are so awesome! I've had the opportunity to use them in other classrooms in my building. Now it's time for our music room to get one! Learning with a SMART board is interactive, engaging, and allows us to bring online music resources to everyday, in-person instruction. Over the past year, I've had to rely on these kind of music resources to teach my in-person and remote students. I want to be able to continue to utilize those resources when all the students return in September.
Our general ed students, as well as our students with special needs, will remain engaged and anyone with visual impairments will be able to see everything throughout the class period thanks to the SMART board's big and bright screen.
This wonderful piece of technology will also allow multiple kids to come to the SMART board at one time to practice music making skills. This SMART board can connect to the internet so we can watch music clips and performances. If a laptop is connected or synced through AirPlay, the teacher can mirror what is on the laptop onto the SMART board screen. No more clunky projector to wheel out on a cart and worrying about children tripping over wires! I teach multiple grades and sometimes the same lesson in a day. Having my lessons, slides, and activities, all on the SMART board will make planning much more manageable.
