Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I have more students than ever, and they are all excited for school and eager to learn. I've been able to use so many of the great materials I have received from my proposals to make the returning 1st graders love coming to school. And with my goal of making learning fun for everyone we're winning the Kindergartners over one day at a time as well!
The students in special education came ready for school on the first day thanks to early intervention.
I was able to start from the first moment and that inspires me to carry on this momentum throughout the year as we go on a journey together.
We love playing music and doing art together, and I love watching the students express their individual personalities in these areas. Everyone knows how to play, so if I can make learning feel like playing we're on our way to making lifelong learners.
My Project
Next year my school will be moving to a temporary site for a year while they install air conditioning in all the classrooms. Unfortunately for my kindergartners, the temporary site was build for middle school aged children, so the facilities are a little bigger than what we are used to. That means that a trip to the computer lab would almost qualify as a field trip! Therefore I am trying to build a mini-portable computer lab right in the corner of my classroom.
The small-size keys in this mini laptop will be perfect for my students with small hands.
It will go well nicely with the iPads and Chromebooks we have access to, but that we have to share with other classes. This device will be our very own.
Access to technology is a great equalizer when it comes to my students with special needs. I have been amazed at how much knowledge they are able to demonstrate that previously we would not be able to see due to them being non-verbal, or needing multiple means of expressing themselves.
