Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our special education classrooms are the same as any other classroom on campus, and it is my goal to make sure that students receiving instruction on our campus have what they need to be successful and engaged while giving them the tools they need to understand math both in and out of the classroom.

The goal of this project is to make sure that students have a place in the classroom that allows them to work in a one-on-one or small group settings to work with the more direct instruction in areas that they are behind.

Due to the pandemic, there was a substantial loss of knowledge and skills that students experienced when not in school; especially those with learning disabilities. Having a place for small groups allows me to plan and organize groups and to adapt instruction, methods, and materials tailored to the needs of different students. This will allow us to close gaps in grade level and ability level while preparing students for future school years. Students will have access to grade level standard and grade level curriculum in a modified fashion with peers who require similar help.

Students with neurodivergent needs may also need to sit differently, move their bodies, have access to hands-on learning materials, and extra practice materials. The unique shape of this table and a chair that moves allows for flexible seating around it which then allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand increasing oxygen flow to the brain and blood flow.
