Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a dual language classroom where all the students are helping each other learn a second language. We are all working hard to make sure they advance all their content skills in English and in Spanish.
My students learn cooperatively all day long and acquire not only language skills, but interpersonal skills as well.
They teach each other language and content. Research shows that being bilingual strengthens your brain capabilities and my students are living proof of that. All my students are hard working and go the extra mile to learn.
My Project
An essential part of any elementary school day is small-group instruction. My day consists of taking time to work with small groups in all content areas throughout the day. I especially focus on math and reading instruction. My students learn to read, write and speak in both languages and need small group instruction to advance their skills. The small group easel, it will allow me to have interactive language and concept practices with them. My students already use dry-erase lap boards daily and having the dry-erase markers and erasers ready and available will ensure that there in no interruption in the use of these materials. Since my students learn two languages, they also need to learn the grammatical differences and similarities between the two. The giant punctuation marks will allow for interactive and visually pleasing practice.
With the small-group materials I am requesting, my students will receive an even more enriching experience when I am working with them.
These materials will help make sure they have everything they need to practice their skills and learn new ones.
