My first graders are excited to walk through our classroom doors! Despite the wide variety of backgrounds my students come from, each one has the desire to learn to read. These young minds are eager to see what each day holds in our classroom to help them in their academic journey.
When a student learns to read, their mind is filled with endless possibilities.
Many of my students are first-generation English learners. Learning how to read and write is opening up many opportunities for my students and their families. They want to be at school, and their sweet faces show it. Their smiles and hunger for knowledge warm my heart as I strive to provide them with a variety of opportunities.
My Project
My students have the opportunity to do small groups on a daily basis. During this time, students are able to work at their specific own level while doing four different centers.
A listening center allows students to hear fluent readers and are able to follow along in their own books.
These small groups help students focus on skills that make a big impact on their reading. During their time at the teacher table, a small desktop whiteboard lets me show, write, and draw the specific phonics skills we are working on.
