Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students know when they walk into the classroom, we are a team, a family. Each student in my class has their own unique way of learning and we find ways to help each other the best we can. They are always willing to try new things and make it known with excitement and confidence when they "get it." These "a-ha" moments are what make my job worth doing, day in and day out.
I am a special education teacher for students with language deficits that effects progress in many academic subjects and makes their social interactions difficult.
Despite the varying challenges they have, each of my students come to school ready to learn. They also show each other patience, love, and acceptance. They constantly remind me of the qualities I want to have and share with others.
My Project
My students work in small groups throughout the day and need lots of modeling by the teacher to learn different skills. Only two of my small group areas have stationary whiteboards, leaving my other two small group areas nothing to use to provide models of problems for students. Having a whiteboard on wheels would be great to use in small group settings because it can moved to be where the students are. This will also help my students who need close up modeling instead of trying to see the stationary whiteboard from faraway desk seating.
My students also need small group materials like dry-erase dots and markers to independently practice skills.
Dry-erase dots can be placed on any small group table to eliminate the need to take out and put away individual whiteboards each time they are needed. The dry-erase dots will also provide students with their own designated space at the table.
Lastly, the completed stamp will help the teacher in sharing with parents the support their child needed to completed a task. This is especially important in a special education setting where everyone's goal is for the students to complete work independently. My hope is that these requested materials will all make a positive impact on independent student learning.
