Virginia Beach is home to families from all over the country and world, due to the four military bases in the area. For most of the year the students spend the majority of their day at school, it essentially a second home for them. There are many reasons why I love working at our school is the variety of students that we have in or classrooms. I have students ranging from living in hotels to students living in middle-class neighborhoods. Despite these obstacles, my students work hard every day and in our classrooms, we are all equal.
My hope as a teacher is to allow for all my students to succeed. This can be a difficult task when students all learn in different ways. If I can add technology, like the requested iPads, in my small group station rotation I will be able to have students excited to “play.” This program is directly aligned with our language arts, social studies, and math curriculum and allows each student to work on their own goals. The Osmo math and language arts allow for each student to have a profile that is student-specific. One student might be spelling on a 2nd grade level while another is kindergarten, each student grows as they are ready and allows for specific instruction. We have learned over the years that student-specific instruction is the best way for them to grow and this system provides exactly that! Successful students also are learning while having engaging lessons that are fun, this project will allow for exactly that! Once students master this set of material I can then easily add on and continue to extinguish their curiosities.
