As an elementary school counselor, I serve all the students at my school. Our school is rural but we also have students who come to us from the outskirts of the city. Many of our students are here from K-5th grade but we have some that have been at multiple schools over the course of their elementary years. We welcome them and make them a part of our school family for as long as we have them.
Just like family, students need hugs sometimes and always a cheerful smile but there are some students that need more than that.
These students might struggle with things going on at school and home and they may have behavior issues in the classroom or seem sad and preoccupied. It is something we catch glimpses of everyday.
My Project
I have many great lessons for small group dealing with a variety of topics. Some of the lessons require written work from the students as they work through issues. And while white paper is great, the students tend to respond better when the assignments are on colored paper.
Also, we sometimes need tools to help us verbalize what we are thinking/feeling and having some conversation starters gives us somewhere to go and gets the students to start opening up.
Students enjoy the fun of rolling dice or writing on chart paper on the walls. Sometimes small things like colored paper or chart paper and markers pave the way for student progress.
These materials will help with both the written and oral parts of the lessons.
