Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a low-income area, and more than half of our students are enrolled in the free or reduced-rate lunch program. A lot of our students have experienced some form of trauma in the home and have a difficult time regulating their emotions.

Our school has put into place several social and emotional supports to help the students better cope with negative emotions and getting along with others.

This project will help those students who need additional support.

My Project

Social and Emotional Learning reflects the critical role of positive relationships and emotional connections in the learning process and helps students develop a range of skills they need for school and life. SEL skills include the ability to: feel and show empathy for others; establish and maintain positive relationships; make responsible decisions; as well as understand and manage emotions.

We have identified a number of students on campus who require small group instruction in key areas such as relational aggression; empathy, social skills and managing your emotions.

This project will allow us to purchase resources such as trade books, social-emotional workbooks, games, and other tools and resources to work with small groups of students with specific SEL needs.
