My Project

As a new classroom teacher I am constantly looking for ways to help my first graders develop their independence and create engaging learning experiences in our classroom. I have included organizational items such as a 16 drawer organizer which will be used to organize reading and math group activities that student's can access on their own, as well as provide additional resources, such as games and activities that student's will access at appropriate times during our learning. One the challenges that I have had is helping my students be self directed during my reading intervention block and math group blocks. Having organizational tools helps me to have games and activities readily accessible for my students while I work with small groups. These tools are essential to helping our classroom that is clean, organized and is an environment that supports students learning.

Another great need I have is for materials to use to provide structured foundational phonics and mathematic practice during my intervention blocks.

The additional phonics mats and math mats will help me be better prepared with research based activities that will ensure I meet the different learning needs of all of my students.

Finally, the request for the rolling easel and chart paper will further enhance my small group as well as whole group activities since I create anchor charts for the various concepts that I cover during instruction and practice. These anchor charts are most valuable when they are displayed around the room and available for students to help them recall information they have learned. Having recently gone through special training for teaching English Learners training, I learned that visual pictures and charts are essential in helping my EL students and really all of my students to develop and build their language skills.
