Our classroom consists of 23 eager to learn first graders. They have a true passion for learning. Due to the extreme poverty in their lives, my students often come to school with minimal background knowledge that is needed to be successful. This may include lack of vocabulary to comprehend a story to lack of letter sounds in order to read. Small group learning on their instructional level will help fill this gap and make them successful!

Learning is such a fun experience in our classroom. Who says we can't learn AND have fun?! We work hard all year to make sure our classroom is a safe, learning atmosphere for everyone!
My Project
Small group instruction happens daily in my classroom and is my students' favorite time of the day. They are able to get one on one attention as well as small group instruction with peers in both reading and math. The confidence they endure during this time is amazing!
Small group instruction will help my students close learning gaps.
Having a kidney table will allow myself to be an arms length away from each student. This will help me guide instruction and help each child as they need it.
During this time, I will provide both math and reading interventions. Depending on the skill needed, activities may include reading and writing, comprehension questions, word decoding, fluency, and the use of manipulatives to assist with math concepts.
