My students need more Hokki stools to allow their energetic bodies to move during our small group instruction time, wall pop stickers for our small group table, erasers, dry-erase pouches, and paper pockets for individualized instruction.
To pause in the middle of my classroom during different moments of our day is to witness amazing things happening and the credit goes to the wonderful little minds I get to engage with every day. My kindergarten students are full of life. They simply LOVE life. They get excited over what we sometimes take for granted and they have such a natural curiosity and wonder for the world that surrounds them.
My students have the innate desire to grow and learn more and more as they go.
We live in a suburban community and my classroom is made up of very diverse needs. I fluctuate throughout the year between 21-25 students. We work hard to integrate and differentiate for each of their individual needs throughout the day and give all my students the ability to rise to their potential and feel successful and inspired at school.
My Project
Having a readers, writers, and math workshop in place and flowing throughout our school day allows for a lot of individualized small group instruction time. I meet with many different groups of students during the day to work on fundamental literacy, writing, and math skills. I have a great area in my classroom to meet with groups of kids that is a cozy meeting spot. They know when they see my picture on their chart, we get to spend time together learning!
We are in need of some supplies and tools that will allow my students to have greater success in their differentiated group time.
We started the year with some flexible seating options in our classroom, one of which being Hokki stools. My kids LOVE these stools and constantly want to be the ones that are allowed to sit on them when they come to see me in various groups. I am hoping this will allow me to purchase 4 more stools that would allow all students to use one of the stools at my table during a group. These stools allow their bodies to move and rock while still focusing and attending to what we are working on together. I am also hoping to purchase more tools and supplies that can help enhance my small group instruction. Dry erase erasers and erasable pouches will allow my students to work at different levels and on different goals in reading, writing, and math. The wall pop dots will allow my students to get right to work in my small groups rather than locating boards and scrambling to find what they need. These tools would greatly help my students have more focused, successful small group instruction.
