This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Almost all of my low brass students use a school-provided instrument. I also provide mouthpieces for each instrument, but our trombone and euphonium mouthpieces are very old and in poor condition. They are dented, chipped, and bent out of shape in places, and I know they're preventing my students from getting the best possible sound.
Having an appropriate mouthpiece is essential for students to be able to form the correct embouchure and play with good tone.
After the pandemic and inconsistent band experiences for the last 2 years, my students are all working to regain their playing ability, improve their tone, and extend their range. New mouthpieces will help them succeed and hopefully allow them to progress more quicker.
My goal is always to provide the best possible equipment to my students. This project will help make my classroom equitable and hopefully encourage my students to practice more!
