Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art". - John Lasseter
I teach in an urban environment, plagued with unknown home situations.
All my students receive free school breakfast and lunch. This is the first time many of my students are in school and following rules while playing with others. It is a big adjustment for them when they start school having teachers instead of family around them all the time. We have a full day including whole group instruction, centers and nap time. My students are graded all day and need to have fun.
My Project
Children today are growing up with technology all around them. It is important that students learn the acceptable uses of technology just like every other thing they learn in school. I would like to have a technology center with Chromebook laptops and mice for the students to navigate and learn from. There is not a lot of space in my room to set up computers, and they are too big for my young learners. I would like to have laptops I can put away when the center is closed so students do not always want to get on the computers and become distracted by them.
I would also love to teach my students how to doodle using Google. There is a whole drawing program that will give students a different way of expressing themselves. I want to empower my students through art! I want to know about them through any means they can make art with.
Small children, and adults alike, need to express themselves.
Why not let young children use technology to show off those art skills, even if it is "clip art"? This project would empower young learners to be creative and artistic through technology at one center, then they will be artistic, hands-on, at other centers.
