"The best way to interrupt the cycle of poverty is to support children's physical, socio-emotional, and educational needs." - Cheryl Suliteanu
Help my students to successfully participate and enjoy school! Our elementary school is in a high-poverty area, and many students come to school hungry. Not all of my students are able to participate fully in their general education without extra support. These materials will help my students learn how to be successful, independent, and happy in life.
My Project
My students thrive when given hands-on materials. Slumberkins teach positive life skills through book with accompanying super soft animals. The Narwhal focuses on the skills of growth mindset, responsibility, and teamwork. Hartley helps children in blended families, in foster care, or who have been adopted. The Sloth promotes relaxation, mind-body connection, anxiety management, and positive attachments. Bigfoot’s heartwarming story of acceptance and strength boosts readers’ self-esteem and self-worth. Yeti’s story reminds children to slow down and be mindful of the world around them. Fox’s story provides guidance and tools for both parent and child when coping with big feelings and emotions. Hammerhead’s story focuses on building social skills around conflict resolution. The Slumberkins will be an AMAZING addition to our classroom. These books will be read to the students and help grow their social emotional skills. The animals will be accessible when the students need to take a calming break.
