I am a speech-language pathologist working with a group of unique and amazing students with special needs. My students come from diverse backgrounds, and many have classifications of autism with speech and language delays. They all have different learning abilities, and I'm so proud of the effort that they put into their work each day.
They love to learn and they all learn differently depending on their needs.
My students have a wide range of communication abilities. Some are working on their speech sounds, while others speak only in one or two words. Some use alternate forms of communication such as iPads, sign language, gestures, and/or pointing to pictures. They love to laugh, love to smile, and love learning. They can be a challenging group of kids, but seeing their faces light up with pride when they learn new things is something I wouldn't trade for anything in the world!

My Project
During this hybrid/virtual learning period, I am finding it difficult to engage students. One resource that I have found to be highly engaging for all of my students is Boom Cards, which are interactive and virtual flashcards and games. I was fortunate to receive an iPad2 many years ago. Unfortunately, the iPad2 has stopped updating and I am unable to download newer apps and programs, including the Boom Cards app.
I am looking to purchase a new iPad for my speech and language classroom so I can use this tool both in the classroom and online with my virtual students.
Updated technology will allow me to have access to updated apps and programs that no longer work on my iPad2 and I will be able to use it during this hybrid/virtual learning time!
