Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my school, 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast, and many qualify for free or reduced-price lunch due to low income. We have a huge range of backgrounds including farming, stay at home, single parent, and multi-generational as well as 1-2 parent working families. We have a high ELL population, and parental involvement as well as community and business donations are low.
My school district is well-known for superbly serving our special needs population students, which is a source of pride; however, the numbers of special needs students in general education classrooms is soaring while class sizes remain high, and funding for support is low.
I do not require parents to supply items for the class so I have supplied them for my students personally. Help us become lifelong learners by providing multiple ways for students to access the content so they can all achieve success!
I am now able to reach some of the youngest learners and provide the best foundation for social/emotional well being and academic awareness to begin their school careers in Transitional Kindergarten.
My Project
My students need a sand and water table to experience the different sensory activities related to using the materials. This sand and water table will not only provide my students with sensory experiences but also with social engagement opportunities. My students will be able to talk with one another and engage with each other in experiencing the sand and water, some touching sand for the first time. They will learn about texture using their hands to explore our natural environment.
This project is important to our early childhood classroom because it provides my students with different learning and social experiences in which they are able to build their vocabulary.
This sand and water table project will also allow the students to take their experiences outside!
