My students need an audio card reader with card sets, headphones, and batteries to help with language learning in our kindergarten special education classroom.
Children learn best when they are actively engaged in high-interest activities. Independent workstations are most effective when students can work with activities that they can access independently!
I teach children with special needs in a Kindergarten Special Day Class in a high-poverty school where 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
My students' qualifying conditions range from Autism to Intellectual Disability to Speech/Language Disorders. Many of my students have emerging speech, some do not talk, and I have one or two who speak in 4-5 word phrases.
While my students may have learning handicaps, they still have a desire to learn that is inherent in young children, and they just need the right tools to help them be successful. I provide a language-rich environment every day for my students with disabilities that span a wide variety of ability levels. However, there are learning tools available that my school just cannot provide due to cost and limited school budgets.
My Project
To provide a language-enriching opportunity for learning, a Language Tutor card reader will be a tool at one of our independent workstations within our structured classroom. Students will use the Language Tutor to increase language and learn to read words and phrases with the audio reading cards. Students will not only listen, but can record their own voice and replay it for reinforcement. With the blank programmable cards, learning can be customized for each student. While recording, the students need a headset with a microphone and batteries.
Your thoughtful donations to this project will have a big impact on my students' language because they will allow my students to work on language enrichment independently with the card reader.
This in turn will help my students reach their larger goals in and out of the classroom.
