Our school has a long history embedded into the community we serve. Students are excited to attend school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to start a STEAM Resource program for the first time! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, instead you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more!
My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.
"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!
I recently had the privilege of listening to Mr. Adam Welcome deliver a keynote speech to kickoff the school year. One thing he said really resonated with me, "How do you expect our wifi students to learn through landline practices?" This directly connects to teaching our students about financial literacy. Adding, subtracting, fractions, percentages, and other math concepts can seem daunting to many students. How can we move past that barrier? Take away the worksheets! Students aren't going to learn through rote memorization and countless practice problems. Instead, we need to show them real-world application.
What better way to make math come alive, than by allowing students to run their very own pizza shop?
That's exactly what the Osmo iPad bases and Osmo Pizza Games will allow us to do. Students will apply their knowledge of addition, subtraction, and fractions to run and grow their very own business. They even will learn about profit share by investing their profits. You would never be able to get this through a worksheet! Our STEAM class is all about bringing learning to life and that's exactly what we will be able to do with your help!
