My Students
I teach in a moderate/severe SDC (special day class) with students of varying abilities and personalities.
My students are full of energy, eager to learn, and are capable of thriving in a structured environment with individualized supports provided.
They have great personalities and they benefit from routines, visual supports, and positive reinforcement. Some of the needs my students have are sensory, visual, tactile, and audio.
My Project
Whiteboards are universal tools in classrooms around the world, especially in Special Education! Teachers and students use them daily for mathematical equations, writing tasks, spelling, mini lessons, games, and even as a reward (for drawing). Slant boards allow students with low motor skills, physical impairments, and/or visual impairments a chance to practice correct writing techniques and pencil gripping on a raised surface instead of a flat one.
By donating to our project, you will not only provide home access to multiple modalities of learning, you will be promoting engagement, academic success, student pride, and independence.
Students will be able to practice skills like correct letter sizing, formation, and finger spacing on activity sheets and adapted paper daily. They will also be able to use the white board surface to practice math skills with drawing or magnetic manipulatives. Providing accommodations and assistive technology to students will increase independence and academic performance.
