I teach a diverse group of students, ranging from my brand new college prep freshmen that are just learning the ways of being high schoolers to my advanced placement sophomores who know the ropes and are ready for some advanced science experiences.
Although the two groups are very different, I enjoy providing experiences that facilitate the needs of their specific stages of scientific learning.
My freshmen are so eager to ask questions (sometimes the most random questions - keeping me amused). My sophomores are so ready to learn and marvel at each and every experience that helps them build their scientific knowledge from the ground up.
My Project
So that my students can do some comparative studies on various skulls, I am hoping to finish the entire set with these three skulls. Having previously gotten funding for other parts of this project, I hope to finish this one out with the cougar, cow and chimpanzee skulls.
Bringing the intrigue, mystery, and techniques of science to students is an essential element of the next generation science standards but it is sometimes tough to get students outside to do actual science so its nice to bring opportunities to them.
These skulls will help me to give students opportunities to handle, touch, measure, compare and draw conclusions. These are all skills we would like our future scientists to have.
