Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite their hardships, they are eager to start the day with a positive attitude every morning.
We are a Title I school where students are making more academic progress from one grade to the next compared to students at other schools in the state.
Many of my students receive free or reduced-priced lunches. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
My fifth-grade students encounter bullying and social exclusion daily. The donation you make to my classroom will be used to facilitate daily class morning meetings.
I am asking for supplies to foster relationship skills and promote positive social behavior.
With this donation, I will create a structured group meeting time which will promote soft skills with authentic and relatable scenarios. Additionally, it will be an opportunity for students to celebrate each other's successes.
Research shows that structured social-emotional learning time improves academic achievement and increases prosocial behavior. Additionally, it improves student attitudes toward school and reduces depression and stress among students.
