I teach in a low socioeconomic Title I School. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My third graders walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. My students are kind, loving, and adore learning with their whole heart. I want them to know I believe in them and that they can do anything. They know that I am their #1 cheerleader!
We are a diverse group of third-grade students from a small rural community in NC.
I have military students with parents who are deployed, students well above grade level, numerous students from dual language families where only English is spoken at school, and others with intervention plans due to working below grade level. My kiddos' learning levels range from kindergarten to 4th grade! They need daily experiences with hands-on materials that will help stimulate their creative thinking and reasoning skills. It makes it challenging to find activities to reach each child where they are academically. We work in small groups and centers that provide individualized instruction at each learning level. When you enter our room, you see groups working together!
Malcolm Gladwell said, "Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good." My students need lots of practice each and every day with their math fluency.
In order to retain their math skills, my third graders need daily practice with the math skills that we are learning.
This ETA Hand2Math fluency kit will be the perfect addition to our classroom. It has so many wonderful manipulatives for the students to move and maneuver. By having the students use movement, it helps them retain the information they are learning for longer periods. The fluency kit also comes with daily math problems to be solved individually as well as math talks that the students work together to solve.
My students math skills would greatly improve by having this fluency kit in our classroom!
