Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you recall moving to a new school in a new country, and not being able to speak to anyone? Can you imagine how a young child would feel leaving their friends? My students are immigrants and 100% get free meals. Art is a fun and easy way to communicate visually and a stepping stone to learning
My students are new immigrants to our country.
They bring with them an excitement and awe of learning about their new home, as well as a wealth of memories of their countries. They are very impoverished and excited about creating their own stories in art. My students have very little to call their own, and for this reason they cherish their Art sketchbooks.
My Project
I am requesting sketchbooks for both Elementary and Middle School Art students. We use sketchbooks in our art class to record important vocabulary, art elements and art principles. Often the students use their sketchbooks as a journal to write down their thoughts or to record ideas.
My art students need sketchbooks for their daily art lessons.
Recording artistic thoughts and ideas is an important part of the art process. Sketchbooks are also the springboard to larger art work and interdisciplinary studies.
