Sketchbooks for Art Journaling
Help me give my students sketchbooks for daily art journals; sketchbooks will be recycled for other classes.
My students are of low-income households and from diverse backgrounds. They come to school with an array of weights on their shoulders. The school is Title I, so students are given breakfast and lunch daily, making sure they are not to go hungry. Not only are students receiving meals, but we teachers like to ensure that students are supported with their learning materials, and we strive to keep costs low for school supplies. Like all teachers, we need donations to keep our classrooms going for our small wonders who walk through our doors everyday!
Students will use the sketchbook daily in art class to get warmed up and ready to create. Students will also learn the art of visual journals, how to effectively use visual journals to take notes, jot down academic stresses, free draw and practice visual mindfulness and meditation.
Students will use the sketchbook to begin our art activities, processes and creations.
They will understand that art can be a therapeutic way to help in crisis, boredom, creativity and academics.
I look forward to every student having a sketchbook to embrace art as a way of learning and living in our world.
