Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a coastal community, with students eager to share their creative works with others. Although we are not close to a large city, we have the benefit of living in a unique environment that inspires many artists from around the country.
With many students interested in visual arts, I want to encourage those that have the desire to follow this path beyond high school by having the facilities necessary for them to have this vision.
It takes time and resources to build a program, and a lot of my students are at a financial disadvantage, especially after Hurricane Harvey. Many families are still recovering from the financial burden that the storm's destruction created, and are having a hard time making ends meet. If I don't have it for them to use, they will miss out.
My Project
My students use their sketchbooks every day. Every student will be experimenting with art supplies, creating drawings for present and future projects, along with visual notes and other things to be pasted.
Planning is an important part of creating art.
Behind every famous work of art is a sketchbook.
Since sketchbooks are so personal, these are items that cannot be shared. My students need their own sketchbooks, which in a situation like ours, can be a luxury that wouldn't be possible without your help. Many of our families are struggling to meet basic needs, and a sketchbook is not a priority.
