I teach business and technology to some of the most creative, curious, and innovative students. My goal is to provide tech experiences to our students to promote 21st-century learning and skills with STREAM.
My students are very innovative and creative individuals.
Students in our district often have limited technology experience. My students will begin to discover and cultivate their creativity as they begin to apply their unique gifts and talents and allow them to become the innovators and global leaders of tomorrow with the stories they will be able to create and tell.
My Project
Sketch Notes is another term for visual note-taking. While normal note-taking is just writing linearly, Sketch Notes make it more visually appealing layout-wise with the use of additional hand-drawn elements like doodles, illustrations, lines, word containers, actions, etc. Sketch Note is not only fun and interactive, but it also allows students to digest the things from lessons and narrow it down to key takeaways.
Financial literacy focuses on the knowledge and skills you need to make effective and informed money management decisions.
Being able to visualize them in Sketch Notes allows for gaining the knowledge and developing the skills to become financially independent. This begins with something as simple as putting a few pennies in a piggy bank, and evolves to more advanced subjects such as budgeting and risk.
My students are very visual learners and thinkers. Since introducing them to Sketch Notes, they have been able to understand finances better, but we are limited in supplies. We need color pencils and better ways to present them. Having color pencils would allow my students more access to being innovative with their Sketch Notes and being able to present them in a professional way on our overhead projector. We need an Apple Pencil to show how to create details and steps with their Financial Notes. This is a step in having student-led learning as we will have a student a class be picked to create Sketch Notes in our classroom that can be shared with everyone.
We live in a visual world. We all learn differently and demonstrate mastery in unique ways. Though many of us do not feel artistic, giving students opportunities to express their ideas visually using Sketch Noting provides them a powerful strategy they can use to take ownership of their learning, especially with financial literacy.
