My students are middle schoolers at a K-8 school . They are creative, hard-working and come from all walks of life. They love learning and their enthusiasm for education is inspiring to see. Since my students are becoming teenagers it is really exciting to see how they embrace their individuality, but also how they are fearless in the face of adversity. They want to stand up for what they believe in. They want to have their voices heard against racism, sexism and prejudice. They want to make a difference. Please help them recognize the power they have to lead this next generation!
My students are lucky enough to be part of an amazing program called Classroom Champions where our class is paired with an Olympic or Paralympic mentor for the year. He or she teaches us about character development through monthly lessons.
“We’re here for a reason and I believe a bit of the reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark.” — Whoopi Goldberg.
Our mentor will share his or her experiences as an athlete with us and challenge us to grow in areas like goal setting, perserverance, healthy living, and community involvement. This year is special because it is an Olympic year!
Your support will provide us with goal setting journals. We'll use these at the beginning of the school year to set short and long term SMART goals. Then, throughout the year, we'll come back and reflect on our goals and change them as needed. We'll share our goals with our mentor and our family. We also need markers for decorating our notebooks. I will also give my students inspirational quote cards throughout the year that reinforce themes we are working on. In addition we're requesting yoga mats and bands for our healthy living unit where we make healthy class choices. Lastly, we would like Olympic decor to launch our year off and get the students excited about Classroom Champions. Thank you for supporting this amazing program!
