Help me give my students quality supplies for art education! These materials will be used by two sixth grade classes for multiple art projects, all focusing on abstract art and taught by retired art teacher, Charlotte Canning!
I teach sixth grade in an elementary school in Washington State. My sixth graders are amazingly diverse, speaking eight different languages and with families representing cultures from around the world. As a school, 58.5% of our students come from backgrounds of poverty and we have many students who are homeless. Inclusion of all students is an important aspect of our school; we house the district's Health Services program and I have three students with type 1 diabetes and we have multiple students with special needs that join our class on a regular basis. One student in our class has the job of Inclusion Specialist, ensuring that all of our classmates are welcomed and participate whenever possible.
Too often, students in schools like ours miss out on rich learning experiences such as the visual arts- NOT HERE!
Help us bring art education to our students so they are ready for success in middle school and beyond. Help ALL of our students find their own inner artists through quality art instruction based on real artists, taught by a real art teacher, and using high-quality materials! Thank you for supporting the visual arts at our school!
My Project
These materials will be used in several different art projects, all led by an amazing retired art teacher, Charlotte Canning!
All students deserve a well-rounded education with quality visual art instruction!
Students will use quality materials to bring true art education to their experience as sixth graders. Students will use inspiration from abstract art by Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Georgia O'Keefe, Jacob Lawrence, and Wassily Kandinsky. Their art learning will be integrated with both writing and music instruction, as they study the history of jazz music during art classes. By focusing on abstract art, students will move past their need for realism and discover the artists inside themselves!
