Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My room is extra special because I have students with "super powers" in my classroom. I teach a special day class with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. Each of my students brings something very special and unique to the classroom. In addition, each of them qualifies to be in my classroom based on a variety of disabling conditions which classify them to receive special education services. Not only do all of my students have super powers or special needs, but they also come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. This means they may lack emotional, educational, and financial support or stability in their home.

My Project
Our classroom is made up of students who struggle with meeting their sensory needs during the school day. They require scheduled breaks in academics to keep their motivation up and take the mental and sensory breaks they need to continue working.
By providing our classroom with sensory seating, you are helping them with an area that is not only comfortable for their sensory space but conducive to meet those sensory needs.
Beans bags and comfortable sensory seating allow my students the space to take a break from the rigor of the classroom, so they can decompress and meet their own sensory needs. Learning is essential but these breaks are also a huge component of success in our classroom.
These will be added to our sensory space, that is blocked off and allows them a comfortable place to relax and interact with other sensory activities that closes them off from the rigor of the classroom environment.
