Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the satisfaction that comes from creatively solving a difficult problem or challenge? My students know that feeling well. They love to design and create, using many different materials to create whatever they need. Often our students come to us frustrated by life in a low-income neighborhood in a big city. They can feel ignored or powerless. Being a part of a STEM school empowers them to change the world they live in!
Working in a MakerSpace allows my students to express their creativity and showcase their varied talents.
They can use design software, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, or arts and crafts materials to create whatever they can imagine! From first through fourth grades, all of my students cannot wait to use the engineering design process to be true Makers!
My Project
These chairs will allow our young Makers to sit safely and reach the top of their work tables. Currently, our students have traditional classroom chairs or stools, which allow them to rock and wiggle, which is dangerous when working with tools and technology. They also do not provide the students with support nor do they allow them to comfortably reach the middle of the table.
Urban Junior chairs will enable independence, confidence and safety in our students as they create amazing things!
Please help provide our students with something as basic as a chair so that they can be successful!
