60% of the students in my class lost their homes and belongings in Hurricane Harvey. In addition, they lost their classroom too. We began school a month later than planned at a local church in town.
My students are brave and adaptable.
These are just a few words I could use to describe them. They have embraced this year and have made the best out of the traumatic time in their short little lives. I cannot say enough good things about this sweet little class.
Our classroom was all set up and ready for the first day of school which should have been August 28, 2017.
Hurricane Harvey had other plans for us.
The storm blew into Orange, Texas on August 29th and flooded our beautiful classroom and entire school. Our classroom chairs sat in the flood waters for multiple days after the storm before the water drained out of the building.
My students would love to have these developmentally appropraite sized chairs to replace our chairs that were damaged in the flood waters. A nice and safe place to sit and do seat work or center jobs is a must in kindergarten. My students will be able to reach the table with this chair height and will be ready to learn! I am asking for 30 chairs so all students will have their own seat and a chair can be waiting on them at their center and they will no longer have to carry chairs around the room.
