These students live on the beautiful coast of Maine and family backgrounds run a wide gamut from the traditional fishing industry to careers utilizing advanced technology. Kids love music. Our focus is to nurture that love for music through music literacy, music history, and multi cultural music exposure. We also promote lots of performance based learning in order to prepare our students for our upper grade string, choral, and instrumental ensembles.
Music education is closely integrated with literacy and numeracy in the academic classrooms.
Our school is a K through 8 public school which places a high value on the arts, offering instrumental/choral/classroom and string music education, as well as visual arts education, and PE/Health. We are very fortunate indeed, as we witness many financial cuts throughout other parts of the country, eliminating these very programs.
My Project
I am requesting ten more meditation stools that will be used in the classroom music program, grades K-4. In these classes, the students and teacher are currently sitting in a circle, "criss-cross applesauce" as we sing, learn the foundations of music literacy and perform on a variety of instruments. With the addition of meditation stools I am hoping to improve student posture, increase classroom participation and provide alternate seating for students requiring a more structured space to sit in.
Having meditation stools for our young students, promotes excellent posture, ensuring better focus, and early exposure to habits for better health and well being.
Having ten more stools will allow every child in each music class to have their very own stool, increasing student learning and creating a comfortable and inviting space for music to be created.
