Hello! Welcome to our 4th grade classroom. Our classroom very unique! We have an inclusion classroom which means it is made up of general education students, and special education students who have individual learning plans which help them be successful in all academic areas. Everyone has different learning styles, and we would like to try and accommodate our students who have difficulty learning sitting in a hard chair and a desk for 6 hours a day. We are trying to create a flexible seating classroom with your help!!!
A flexible seating classroom means that the students will have a choice of where they would like to sit as instruction is taking place in the classroom.
They can choose to sit on the floor, a wobble chair, a yoga ball or even stand at a high desk.
As you know, public school budgets are limited due to cut backs. In order to make this happen for our students, we need some classroom supplies that can help us out!
My Project
Have you ever sat through a lecture for a long period of time on a hard chair? Students are expected to sit in a hard metal chair for six hours a day. Imagine if children wobble, bounce, lean or stand while learning. Evidence has shown that students can benefit from these changes. Changes to a learning environment are often driven by student behavior.
After close observation and collaboration, we have decided to change our classroom environment to meet the needs of all our students.
Teaching in an inclusion classroom has showed us that flexible seating will be the best option for our students. This will allow our students to choose their comfortable seat and where they work in the classroom. If the students are comfortable where they are working, they can focus on their work.
