The students in my classroom come from all types of backgrounds. Seeing 17 faces each morning with a happy hello, a new story to tell, telling me what new book they are reading, or writing me a special note is what drives me to be a teacher.
Even though some of the students in my school face hardships, they still come to school every day, ready to learn.
Whenever they solve a challenging math problem or finish a great book, they will say, "I did it! I made my brain grow!" They know the importance of learning, and they love when they figure out that they've learned something new! I'm inspired by them every single day.
My Project
At the beginning of the year, I took a chance with flexible seating. I wasn't sure how my students (or myself) were going to adjust to these new options but it has worked out great!
It has improved their ability to focus and complete their work.
I have also seen how it has improved their social skills. Now that they have a choice to sit where they want and be more comfortable where they are sitting, they sit next to students I wouldn't have thought to pair or group them with if I were creating a seating chart. It has also been refreshing to see how well they take care of their seating options. They are proud of their classroom and the materials they have in it!
As the year has progressed, I have chosen some other great options that would work well for my students.
